Braving the Wilderness
by Brené Brown

Brené Brown is a storyteller, professor, and researcher of shame, vulnerability, empathy, and courage. I’ve selected Braving the Wilderness from her collection of bestsellers because this book is for anyone who knows what it feels like to be isolated in the real yet imagined expanse of “otherness.”

Brown writes, “The wilderness is an untamed, unpredictable place of solitude and searching. It is a place as dangerous as it is breathtaking, a place as sought after as it is feared. But it turns out to be the place of true belonging, and it’s the bravest and most sacred place you will ever stand.”

In my humble opinion, Brené Brown has the uncanny ability to reach into the deepest crevice of our hearts and minds in order to shine her bright light of insight and compassion into our darkest corners. In doing so, she dispels our feelings of solitude by showing us that our fears and vulnerability are shared experiences that can bring us wholeness and togetherness.

“True Belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are;

it requires us to be who we are.”
